Build: Mapping my LEGO City Street
Ok let me start with a confession.
I’ve started my LEGO City, in part, because the city I’m in is in a COVID lockdown. I’m in Sydney, Australia and we are five weeks into a lockdown as the city and state tries to squash a Delta outbreak.
For me LEGO building has always been a good a mindfulness activity and while I’ve dipped my toe in the water with LEGO as an adult this is my first real go of building out a city / city street scene. So here’s the basic plan:
I already own the LEGO Assembly Square 10255 which I bought for my birthday in December last year. Right now I’ve dissembled it and put it in a box (I didn’t break them up by level or colour - woops!) given its 4000+ piece this is going to be a challenging build.
I also wasn’t a fan of how the cafe/music shop/ballet studio was connected to the flower store and bakery. So my plan is to use MILS (modular integrated landscaping system) plates to separate these. Let’s see how that goes… but I might not start with it.
Instead I might begin with the newest of the modulars the LEGO Police Station 10278. I love this set and some of the Easter eggs in it. It’s just under 3000 pieces, I love the Donut store next to the Police and it looks like a fun build so a good place to start.
One of the things that annoyed me about Assembly Square was that there didn’t seem to be much pavement so I might try and push the Police Station and some of the other modulars back a bit on the base plate too.
I also want to try my hand at a MOD (modification of an existing set) to I’ve ordered the LEGO Town Center 60292 this is only 700 pieces but it has the new LEGO road plates that I want to use to develop the modular streetscape.
The Town Center has a fun Pizzeria and Dojo which I reckon I can convert into a modular. I’ve ordered two sets (will give me plenty of roads) and some extra minifigures as well.
Anyway that’s the plan - if you’ve built any of these or have any ideas or tips let me know!
